Shaylah flipped her dark hair over her shoulder and opened the shop door. She was glad that she was finally away from New Zealand. There were too many memories over there. She was just glad to have a new start, away from everyone she knew. Except her family of course. Sydney was here with her and owned this particular shop. Ahaylah looked at her sister behind the counter and grinned. "What has the world done to you big sis??" Sydney was one of Shaylah's only friends, Shay wasn't exactly the sociable type. She preferred to keep to herself as much as possible. |

Sydney turned at the sound of her sisters' voice. She grinned at the sight of Shaylah and moved around the counter to hug her, making sure she didn't mess up her dress as she did so. "Shay! What are you doing out here in Michigan? I thought you and Mark were getting cozy in a flat the last time I got an update." She got regular updates from her mother back home in New Zealand. Sydney walked over to the door, turning the sign that said it was open and closing the blinds so no-one could see in. While the items sold in her shop were gloomy and dark, her shop was anything but. It had white walls, no dust at all and, from a glance, everything looked normal. As did she when you looked at her, she had the secretary appearance. Sydney liked to let people underestimate her, she always had the upper hand. "Come and sit in the back with me." She lead her sister behind the counter and through to the kitchen at the back of the shop. |

Shaylah smiled and hugged her sister back. She shrugged slightly at Sydney's question. "It's the same as always really. Plus, You know how long I've wanted to get out of New Zealand. I just needed an excuse." Shay sat on the counter and swung her legs. She had become more fashionable over the years but secretly she was still the mud loving tomboy she had always been. Today, she was wearing a mid-calf, flowing black dress. It wasn't her favourite but it was plain and simple and easy to work in. When Sydney invited her into the back, she followed. "How are things going here with the shop?? It feels like forever since I last saw you." Shay sat down and pushed her hair out of her face whilst waiting for an answer. |

Sydney laughed as she sat across from her sister. "Nothing exciting, I get the weekly visits from the guys who think they can over power a litle shop girl and then, of course, they find out who I've ben brought up with." It was no secret that Anthony Caudwell was viscious in a fight. It was, however, a secret that he was now married, had a daughter, and a few step children including herself and Shaylah. "Gotta love Tony for teaching me to fight properly." She smiled, Tony was a family legend almost, got along with everyone, even Marcus. "So, Where is Markov? Did he come with you?" Sydney always liked Markov. He was a bit immature at times and definitely too flirty for his own good but he was right for Shaylah, that much was obvious. Everyone in the family had bets on when they would get hitched or if they would even get married. Sydney had money on them having kids before getting married, it just didn't seem right or them to do things the traditional way. |

Shaylah laughed when Sydney mentioned Tony. If it had been any other bloke walk into the house that day then they would have ended up with a broken nose but Tony had been Jay's best friend so Shaylah looked up to him. In a way, he was kind of like her second dad. It wasn't like she was ever going to get her real one back after all. Shay shook her head and sighed. "No. He's in London on business. Technically, I'm here on business." Shay missed Markov and wanted to see him again. He was the one boy she had ever had feelings for when she was a kid. She didn't know anyone else like him. He could annoy her sometimes though. Shaylah was trying to be the best death eater she could be and it was difficult to that when there was an immature male constantly around. Him going to London was a bit of a break for her but she couldn't deny how much she wished he was with her. "You found anyone yet or are you still single??" Shay wished Sydney would find someone. It seemed most males were scared of her because she hurt them everytime they attempted to flirt with her. |

Sydney shook her head in humour, it was funny to see Shaylah so wrapped up in one guy, especially a guy like Markov. "Ooh, what's your bussiness? Or is it top secret need to know stuff?" Sydney was a true gossip at heart, it was hard not to be when she had lived with her mother her entire life. Her mother had a way of influencing people. In seven short years she had not only gotten Shaylah touching a skirt but she had even got her liking some dresses. That was impressive work. Sydney rolled her eyes at her sisters question. "I might if the people around here weren't such wimps. I mean, come on, we're in one of the darkest villages in the world and they still run screaming at the sight of a stiletto." The blonde twirled her hair around her finger. She didn't mind being single, she hadn't really dated in school at all, and, though she was ashamed to admit it, she hadn't hed her first kiss yet. So maybe she wasn't as happy as she would like to be but she was managing perfectly fine without a man. |

Shaylah shook her head. "It's not top secret but I know what you're like and I can't have my work spread around everywhere." She laughed slightly and looked out the window and the cloudy night sky. It wasn't cold now as it was nearly summer but the fact that it was windy made it feel cold. Seeing as Shaylah had grown up in Scotland, she didn't feel the cold much so she hardly ever wore jackets. Even in the night like it was now. Shay couldn't help but laugh at what Sydney said. She felt like she could relate to it in a way. When she was fifteen, nobody would have seen her dead in stilettos. She still hated them but she could be forced into them if needs be. "That's because stilettos kill your feet after a few steps. I'd like to see you fight off a victim in huge stiletto high heels." When Shaylah wore dresses, she usually wore elasticated dolly shoes so they stayed on, were fashionable and were easy to run and fight in. |

Sydney laughed at the comment about shoes. "Oh honey, stick around long enough and you will, I do it every week." She grinned and leant on the table. "The trick is to use them to your advantage. You try and find me a man that can still stand after a stiletto heel or two in the nuts." She smirked her usual smirk and leant back in her chair. Her fashion was a choice for looks a practicalness. It made her look defensless and, at the same time, gave her weapons to use. |

Shaylah shrugged. "I'd like to see a guy stand when he's been kicked in the nuts anyway. If he has anything there at all then one kcik with a bare foot should hurt like hell." Shaylah had found that out the fun way when a boy tried flirting with her at school. She had been in a particularly bad mood and he had got on her last nerve. "And who would suspect little me of doing any of the stuff I've done??" Shaylah looked like an angel when she wanted to but the truth was that she was a devil in disguise, |

Sydney laughed. "I think anyone who has met you can see you doing all the stuff you've done and more. Especially if they've met your mentors." It was obvious once you met her that she wasn't the angel she appeared to be. She was no where near it. Most of the women in their family had the ability to look innocent and defenceless in the face of danger but they all had a rotting nasty core on the inside. It was eat or be eaten and they all knew how to eat. "So, tell me how the family is doing. How's little Persephony?" When she had last seen her other half sister she had been three, shows how much she actually saw the family, she would be around fiveor six now. |
